Head Coach
The Varsity Baseball Head Coach must assume a major role in fostering cooperation and positive teamwork, exhibiting outstanding sportsmanship and fan involvement at games and special events and most importantly, assume a major role in the development of our youth as future leaders. This job requires you to interact thoughtfully and respectfully with student-athletes, fellow coaches, staff, parents and the community. Positive communication strategies, organizational skills, and safety awareness are key requirements.
The Head Coach reports to the Athletic Director. This position requires the coach to complete an employment application, background check, and all district, MIAA, and NFHS required trainings on an annual basis.
Responsibilities –
- Accountable for the entire program, and will oversee all aspects of the program, including, but not limited to, the safety and inventory of athletic equipment.
- Communicate with the Athletic Director concerning any incidents which come up in regards to student-athletes or parental concerns.
- Maintains and upholds the highest standards of student-athlete scholarship. Promoting academics before athletics by monitoring academic performance and enforcing eligibility.
- Maintains and upholds the highest standards of student-athlete sportsmanship and behavior in competition, in the classroom, and in the community.
- Set up and maintain an active sportsYou for internal team communication and communication with families.
- Maintain and update records for student-athlete registration and physicals/medical clearances in conjunction with Athletic Office and Nurses Office.
- Allow all student-athletes the opportunity to compete in the sport while promoting growth and sportsmanship.
- Build a positive relationship with the community to promote the sport.
- Demonstrate all skills, drills, and fundamentals of the sport necessary for individual and team development.
- Plan, organize, and direct the entire sport program (varsity, JV1, JV2) as a cohesive unit.
- Manage and take inventory of all equipment, including the distribution and complete collection of all aspects of team uniforms.
- Be present at all weekend activities.
- Supervise athletes before practices, during/after practices and during activities/events.
- Attend all coaching meetings both internal, external, and league based as assigned.
- Evaluate the progress of the student-athletes with an eye toward developing and growing the student-athlete’s potential.
- Assist with fundraising along with promoting community support and awareness.
- Plan, organize, advertise, and conduct tryouts for the program; inform Athletic Department and participants of final selections. Maintain the integrity of the selection process.
- Set scrimmages and daily practice schedules for the program.
- Submits team numerical rosters to the Athletic Department a minimum of two weeks before the first game, any changes to student information on the roster, inventories, final season statistics and alphabetical list of award winners immediately following the season (list includes number of awards and the class of the athlete).
- Model good sportsmanship behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards opposing team, fans, parents, officials, spectators and community.
- Perform all other duties as are assigned by the Athletic Director
Athletic coaching positions are a one-year appointment. All positions will be posted every year.
