Job Details:

The District Science Instructional Coach is responsible for delivering a high-quality instructional experience that is consistent with the school district's curriculum standards.  

 

Essential duties for all faculty members include classroom instruction; conferences with students, parents, and colleagues; and active participation in the department's work on curriculum development, professional learning, and pedagogy. 

 

Qualifications:

• A Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education teacher licensure; Professional Level 
• General Science (1-6) or (5-8)
• SEI Endorsement 
• At least five (5) years of experience teaching science at the upper elementary (3-5) or preferably at the middle school level (6-8).
• Ability to engage in FPS Coaching Cycles with teachers (general education, special education, and ESL) in contemporary science content, standards, pedagogy, instructional design, assessment, and strategies. 
• Ability to co-plan, model lessons, collect and analyze observational data, and provide peer-to-peer feedback. 
• Ability to plan and facilitate professional learning that leverages HQIM, evidence-based strategies, effective pedagogy, and assessment to improve student learning outcomes for all students. 
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills paired with the ability to work with all stakeholders. 
• A commitment to increase personal growth to reach the highest level of achievement for every student.
• Knowledge of assessment systems, including benchmarking, performance tasks, rubrics, and MCAS 
• Expertise in analysis of a variety of data, creation of reports and documentation, and facilitation of grade-level debriefing sessions, which result in actionable next steps. 
• Facilitate data analysis using platforms such as EDWIN, Excel, assessment rubrics, and other technology-based tools. 
• Ability to work with a diverse population and awareness of WIDA standards and effective literacy practices for ELLs.
• Demonstrated technology skills, including database, spreadsheet, and office applications.
•  Strong interpersonal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to maintain effective and professional collegial relationships.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

The District Science Instructional Coach will:

• Engage in the FPS coaching cycle with teachers to create a student learning goal and develop, implement, and revise effective instruction, which includes strategic planning with clear learning targets and success criteria, aligned to MA Frameworks, centered on the district core instructional resource, employing formative and summative assessments, using evidence-based instructional practices, and making use of intentional scaffolds to support access to instruction for all learners. 
• Partner with teachers and administrators on effective planning and assessment of curriculum and instruction.
• Delivers job-embedded professional learning focused on key, high-leverage teacher moves through the Student-Centered Coaching Model.
• Prepares and facilitates district professional learning sessions as required during early release days, common planning times, and after-school, that are grounded in data and centered on student learning outcomes. 
• Responsible for modeling an asset-based approach that views the diversity, cultural backgrounds, and existing knowledge of students and teachers as valuable resources that can be leveraged to ensure equitable access to opportunities for student learning, including implementing specific strategies for students with special needs, with 504 plans, and English Learners. 
• Meet regularly with district and building administrators to consult on PLC planning which includes analysis of student learning data, shifts in adult practice, district and school strengths and areas for improvement, and coaching work aligned with the District Strategic Plan, School Improvement Plans, and student learning needs.   
• Implements the district's curriculum, mission, philosophy of education, and instructional standards and objectives.
• Implements the District benchmark and other assessment programs, calendars, documents, including school and classroom level reports; coordinates, prepares for, and facilitates all assessment pre/de-briefing sessions.
• Responsible for using innovative approaches and instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies, to increase student learning and confidence to learn.
• Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required, and relating to district policy and administrative regulation, including completion of an annual report on the impact of instructional coaching.
• Maintains and improves professional competence through attendance at professional development events and by self-generated activities that meet district expectations and the requirements for recertification.
• Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students, colleagues, and parents concerning curriculum and broad academic progress. 
• Collaborates with all partner agencies, including but not limited to OSE Massachusetts, DESE, MA Audubon, Growing Places, and Focused Schools. 
• Performance of other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of Science Curriculum.

As negotiated by the Fitchburg School Committee and the Fitchburg Education Association (FEA).
